Rihanna will perform at the Super Bowl LVII Apple Music Halftime Show on February 12, 2023 at Arizona’s State Farm Stadium. As one of the most popular events each year, many people are curious whether the singer will perform alone or with other artists.
Many Taylor Swift fans were taken aback by the announcement, as they had assumed that various hints in the marketing hinted at a possible performance by the country-turned-pop star.
Rihanna Reveals Whether ASAP Rocky Will Appear At The Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show
TMZ approached RiRi outside Bristol Farms in Los Angeles and asked her about the halftime show, to which she replied that she was “nervous” but also “excited.” This will be the singer’s first performance since the Grammy Awards in 2018.
The outlet then questioned her about who might join her on the Halftime Show stage, but she refused to answer. She was later asked if her boyfriend A$AP Rocky, with whom she has a son, might appear onstage. Rihanna shrugged and finally said, “maybe,” before saying goodbye to the reporter.
TMZ previously reported that Rihanna is still debating whether to invite multiple artists onstage for the halftime show or go solo. RiRi is “reflecting on a list of 50 potential guest artists” for the show, according to the outlet. The list is so long because Rihanna has done so many collaborations throughout her career. Sir Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Coldplay, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, SZA, Bono, Jay-Z, Drake, and Nicki Minaj could all be on the list.
Rihanna was asked to perform in the half-time show in 2019 but declined to support Colin Kaepernick’s protest during the national anthem, which was linked to police brutality and racial inequality in the United States.
At the time, the singer told Vogue that she would “absolutely” decline the show, adding, “I couldn’t dare to do that.” For what purpose? Who benefits from this? They are not my people. I couldn’t possibly be a sellout. I couldn’t possibly be an enabler. There are things within that organisation with which I strongly disagree, and I was not about to go and serve them in any way.”
It’s unclear what the NFL has done to make Rihanna more comfortable performing.
