On his recently released album, Demons Protected by Angels, Nav has explained why he chose against working with Drake.
The rapper claimed they had a song ready to go but it wasn’t the proper fit for the already star-studded project in an appearance on the Full Send Podcast. Drake is a wonderful person, and we frequently hang out in Toronto. At 33:30 in the interview, he said, “We performed a song, and I feel like we could’ve done a better song, and the time period was just… not good. It didn’t work out, and since he’s such a well-known performer, I didn’t want the song to overshadow anything else on the album.
In response to a question about whether he was “purposely” leaving the unreleased collaboration off the album, he said, “Sort of, yeah.” He then went on to explain that the two of them felt they could’ve made a better song and that it would detract from the project if the song with Drake wasn’t a hit.
The OVO Sound founder was okay with the choice and suggested they should work together in the studio again in the future when he told Drizzy that it wouldn’t make the record. He was busy with other things, and I was busy since I had to fly to do some gigs, so we just couldn’t find a moment, he said. I’ve collaborated on songs with other artists on occasion, but they didn’t always put me on.
Despite Drake’s absence, Demons Protected by Angels still has a number of A-list artists. Lil Uzi Vert, Travis Scott, Future, Gunna, Bryson Tiller, and Lil Baby are just a few of the numerous guests on the project.
